EVENS FOUNDATION (BELGIUM, PROJECT INITIATOR)
EVENS FOUNDATION (EF) is a public benefit foundation based in Antwerp (Belgium) and with offices in Paris and Warsaw. It initiates, develops and supports sustainable projects that encourage citizens and states to live together harmoniously in a peaceful Europe. Its 3 main action domains are European Citizenship, Peace Education and Media. It awards biennial prizes to highlight achievement and good practice in relevant fields. In its European Citizenship program, EF mainly focuses on activating citizens at local and transnational level. We have initiated and supported many projects in different countries that motivate citizens to become more active participants in society, and encourage them to make the shift from ‘patient’ to ‘agent’. We believe it is important that citizens take responsibility for shaping their own living environment, starting at the local level and ultimately doing so within the larger European context.
ANIMAFAC is a French network of more than 12 000 student organizations. Its goal is to support and provide tools for student initiatives and promote youth citizenship. The Civic Fabric project is an innovative experiment aiming to show that when given the correct information and provided with adequate training, youth can elaborate relevant political proposals. The Civic Fabric aims to develop a stronger and more constant participation of citizens, and especially youth, in the development of political decisions. The goal of the project is to build a collective and well-informed opinion.
BALKAN ASSIST ASSOCIATION (BULGARIA)
BALKAN ASSIST ASSOCIATION is a non-governmental organization founded in 2000 with the participation of individuals and organizations, al contributing to the development of civil society. The association’s members are highly qualified specialists in the field of civic participation, local government, regional development, rural development and European affairs. The mission of the Association is to promote and support civic activity and participation in decision-making at local and central level. In accomplishing its mission, Balkan Assist implemented successfully initiatives and projects with Bulgarian and international partners.
CERE, THE RESOURCE CENTER FOR PUBLIC PARTICIPATION (ROMANIA)
CeRe’s mission is to act so that public decisions meet the needs and desires of social players. CeRe employs a combination of community organizing and assistance, working with public administration , groups of citizens and NGOs to use the principles of participative governance. CeRe provides training, consultations, information, on-site assistance and coaching, process facilitation to NGOs, citizens and public administration in their public participation efforts. Among many other activities, CeRe published two editions of the national study on public participation, assisted and coached more than 40 organizations in planning and implementing successful local advocacy campaigns and has created and tested a methodology to assess the inclusiveness of the process of local governance.
CESAM, CENTRUM FÖR SAMHÄLLSARBETE OCH MOBILISERING (SWEDEN)
CESAM supports active citizenship and community development by organizing workshops, seminars and training and research. They also initiate projects, networks ,cooperatives, foundations and other forms of institutions which can enable citizens to take greater part in society. They bring in the perspective from citizens and local groups in the city of Örebro in dialogue with other groups and citizens in Europe and our 28 years of experience in working with participative democracy.
CONFAVC, CONFEDERACIÓ D'ASSOCIACIONS VEINALS DE CATALUNYA (SPAIN)
The Confederation of Neighborhood Associations of Catalonia (CONFAVC) is a non-profit organization that coordinates 653 neighborhood associations and 26 federations and through their projects and campaigns, works to improve the quality of life of residents and neighbors from districts of Catalonia. The organization was created in 1988 under the impulse of federations of Badalona, Baix Llobregat, Barcelona, L'Hospitalet de Llobregat, Manresa and Tarragona. Now CONFAVC involved territories (especially in poor neighborhoods) to raise awareness and improve important aspects of the value of people as intercultural coexistence, social cohesion, gender equality, among other challenges that working with associations of each territory.
The Hippocrène Foundation is an independent and public benefit family foundation which aims to bring together European youth. It promotes European cohesion by supporting cultural, educational and humanitarian initiatives. The President of the Foundation, Mme Michèle Guyot-Roze continues to carry on the mission and the philosophy of the Foundation, founded by her parents in 1992.
Since 2002, through the series of Propos d'Europe exhibitions, the Hippocrène Foundation supports contemporary art, showcasing and promoting artists' work across Europe. In 2010 the Foundation decided to focus on European Citizenship and established the Hippocrene Prize for Education about Europe.
MITOST ASSOCIATION (GERMANY)
The statutory objective of MITOST is realized mainly by building and maintaining an European information and contact network and the implementation of educational and cultural projects. The association of 1.300 members is developing and implementing innovative projects in the sectors of informal and non-formal education and international exchange. MitOst is involved and engaged in a wide network for active citizenship in Europe. Together with many partners all over the continent, the association is realizing an increasing variety of projects for youth exchange, lifelong learning and European integration with the support of relevant programs of the European Union.
Notre Europe-Institut Jacques Delors (FRANCE)
Notre Europe-Institut Jacques Delors is an independent and European Paris-based think tank. Funded by Jacques Delors in 1996, the association hopes to “think a united Europe”. Its mission is to produce analysis, opinions and proposals to contribute to a closer union of the peoples of Europe, to publish its papers to a public interested by and involved in the European construction, to contribute to the debate on European challenges and to the emergence of a European public space. Their analyses and policy proposals are concentrated around four themes: Visions of Europe, Democracy in Action, European policies, Europe and global governance.
POUR LA SOLIDARITÉ (BELGIUM)
POUR LA SOLIDARITÉ is a European Think Tank intending to contribute to the construction of a European Union based on coherent social policies through playing an active role in influencing sustainable public policies, promoting social economy, raising companies' interest in CSR and enabling citizens' participation to decision making. To this end, PLS works both at the national and European level to stimulate and enhance public participation. In Belgium, PLS works with groups of marginalized citizens whose voice is never or rarely heard on the public scene, such as migrants, beneficiaries of social services and elderly people to empower them to participate in the political life of the country and in public decision making processes. At the European level PLS works with organizations based in different European countries on the exchange of participatory methodologies and experiences with the aim to contribute to the advancement of theory and reflection on participation.
SAMENLEVINGSOPBOUW ANTWERPEN STAD (BELGIUM)
SAS works towards a democratic and intercultural society with equal chances for everyone in neighborhoods of Antwerp where poverty and problems of living together reinforce each other. SAS has developed a particular approach to active citizenship : BUURTSCHATTEN (Treasures of the Neighborhood). Starting from a positive angle - the talents of inhabitants and local resources - SAS aims to start development from the inside. The project is based on the active participation of inhabitants. It encourages them to work together in order to (re-)shape their own neighborhood. The project invites people to submit ideas for projects that would improve the quality of life. A jury of local residents selects the projects.
THE ASSOCIATION OF CREATIVE INITIATIVES "Ę" (POLAND)
THE ASSOCIATION OF CREATIVE INITIATIVES „Ę” have been running socio-cultural projects all over Poland since 2002. It supports initiatives of the young and seniors, helps young artists and encourages cultural institutions to implement changes. They produce social and artistic projects, organize trainings, give grants, publish books... „Ę” creates and promotes new models for action in the realm of culture. They invigorate the socio-cultural space of Warsaw; realize projects, which are built upon our passion and observations of the world around us. Their motto is to remain loyal to important values: authenticity, high quality and getting satisfaction out of what they do.
The Robert Schuman Foundation
The Robert Schuman Foundation of Poland is the non-governmental and non-political organisation. Its aim is to encourage a civic activity of Europeans as well as to promote the European integration and the values which constitute its foundations. Within its statutory activity, the Robert Schuman Foundation implements educational and activating programmes, which are focused upon three main issues: promoting the concept of the European integration and education, societal engagement of citizens and promotion of democratic and civic values and share Poland’s experiences of the European integration process as well as social, political and economic transformation.
VLAAMS-NEDERLANDS HUIS DEBUREN (BELGIUM)
In 2004 the Flemish and Dutch governments founded the Flemish-Dutch House deBuren both as a cultural organization as well as a place for debate and reflection. deBuren presents the beauty and wisdom of the Low Countries and offers a platform for debate on culture, science, politics and society in Flanders, the Netherlands and Europe. Artists, journalists, scientists and politicians are given the floor. Exhibitions, meetings, debates, readings and symposiums covering the most diverse subjects alternate with one another.
